Cool - keep us posted with how it's developing, take lots of photo's and make a slide show from start to finish.
If you want any help on sound proofing, I'll dig up my research, hence you can save a fortune by purchasing the materials and getting a general builder with basic skills to build it.  I can remember that the company that supplies the material have instructions on to build it, and it's easy peazy basic DIY skills.
Put it this way a professional soundproofing company will charge £2,500.00 per wall, so four walls ceiling and floor would cost  £15,000.00 - the materials cost about £2,000.00 for four walls, celing and a wall for a room about 5 x 3 meters - I would say 1 builder could take about a week to construct - If you gave a builder £ 200.00 per day, that's about £1,400.00.

Having said all this you may not need it sound proofing

Don't rush into it, do plenty of research, plan, don't cut corners.

Yes, dont cut corners ... worst thing you could do ... your furniture will never fit properly again if you do !

So are you going for the 'room within a room' idea ?  There are ingenious S profile beams designed to stop the transfer of sound vibrations through the construction.
Though personally I think it is very possible to simply line the original room with hard foam and build your inner room tight up against the foam boards ... theoretically creating your own 'made to measure' foam sandwich board walls ceiling and floor .... as long as there is no direct fixing from inner room to outer shell it should 'theoretically' work better than ingenious S profiles.

If you want to do it on a shoe string you could glue layers of bubble wrap on to everything !!

I love projects like this ... lots of pictures and updates please

Soundproofing Materials
Save yourself some money - I'm pretty sure this company is the most competative and they specialise in it. I phoned them when I was planning mine, they really know their stuff.

also while you are at it,, think about the electricity,  I had to put in a commercial conditioner to remove things from the electricity running though part of the house.. ie the air conditioner kicks on ,, I would get a small pop when I was recording.  The fridge compressor kicks on , a small hum sometimes.   Studio electricity needs to be isolated as best as possible and conditioned against, surges, spikes, and noise interference( lights , moters,  and balanced .....etc.

there are these http://www.soundpure.com/c/ac-power-conditioners-distribution/26
or you can get an electrician to wire in a commercial power conditioner at the mains (input to breaker box/fuse panel.

Very good point.
If one was building a studio or any other extension for that matter it's quite a normal procedure to add a new group on to the existing meter.
Would that be enough ? Or does even a separate group need isolating from the household supply ?

the insulation is double normal + double boarding !!
system decided upon after much trawling of the net for ideas
builder more used to things like nuclear power stations and the like ..( I do not jest )
he knows what i want and how to do it
plus hes the guitarist in alive and kicking and a s**t hot Quantity Surveyor
oh yes hes not building it ..... his company is .... 3 or 4 great lads that know their stuff

im kind of ending up with a floating room

So Ive lost I've lost a fair bit of space to insulation.... but.....

think it will be very cozy .....although a bit narrower than first envisioned haha....

photos at the weekend
