Any Bugs? However small...
Has anyone noticed any small bugs in the system that have not been squashed? I just found two new bugs today, just stumbled upon them, and then fixed them. I'm sure some of you have done the same without reporting — it is very important that you report any problems you may find!

Hi Mud,

...well since you ask - although this is probably not going to affect many people...

I always get a runtime error msg coming up when I open a Forum contents page, and then again when I open a document:

Line: 413
Error: 'alphaPNGfiles' is undefined.

I am using Internet Explorer v6.0 & I leave JavaScript debugging active ('cos I work in IT) so I probably get msgs that other people don't. Clicking 'No' to the debug prompt then just loads the page / doc etc. as normal.

...definately Low Priority

P.S. doesn't happen on the Audio Review page if that's any help.

Oh yes I nearly forgot. The Alt text on the flags no longer appears since u changed the graphics. So I'm going to have to revert to being a geographical moron. I was getting quite good too

JavaScript Errors
I frequently get Javascript errors when browsing the site. For example, on this page:

Line: 414
Char: 2
Error: 'alphaPNGfiles' is undefined
Code: 0
URL: https://forum.bandamp.org/Questions/12138.html

By browser is Microsoft Internet Explorer 6

Doesn't seem to spoil the BandAmp experience though!!

Hmm... alright, I believe that is a javascript program that entheon wrote to make PNGs do alphatranparencies in Internet Explorer. I´ll look into that, however, really have no idea how to work with javascript. BTW, going to be gone for a few days in the mountains. There will be no internet access.

I´m noticing a lot of other javascript errors in IE as well (using a PC at an Internet Cafe)

Yeah, I really have no clue how to fix the Internet Explorer Javascript issues... is there anyone on BandAMP who has Javascript experience that wouldn't mind donating a little of their time to help me out? Again, I have never programmed in javascript before... I only know PHP + PostgreSQL. Also, I do not use Windows or Internet Explorer... so really hard for me to even mess around to try to get it to work right...

So to recap: Would anyone be willing to help fix the Javascript?

Hmm.. I switched it from alt on the image to title on the url, because the alt would not work in Firefox... Anyways, now there is alt on the image, and title on the url, so should work both in Firefox + Internet Explorer... They really should start standardizing these browsers more, it's really annoying.

So it work now? I would not want to inhibit your geographical education...

nope... erm... lol, I guess that email does not forward to my email account — I will look into that... but for now, just send me a PM, and I will get back to you. It's probably going to suck for me once the admin is forwarding to my email account (lots of spam).

A few bugs
Like I haven't noticed you've been busy adding stuff to this site lately...

but I think a few bugs crept in while you were doing so...

one thing is, I'm not getting email notifications when there's new critiques to my songs etc. anymore -
another thing I've seen is the number of songs that come with a member's name isn't updated, so some new guys have uploaded songs, but that won't show up siding their picture, and I'm stuck with 13 while it should be 14

and then a little thing... I checked the profile edit screen, to see what my bio was again... but it didn't show my existing bio in the edit screen and STILL showing the wrong last name, while I'm sure I've edited that one out a couple of times already. Plus, my IM client fields were blank aswell. and I'm sure I filled in the AOL one.

and I have a few pictures uploaded (3), of which only the last one is instantly visible when I go to "My Album". When I click the empty space where another picture should be, that picture does show up though, so I think there's something wrong with the way they are resized to thumbnail size or something.

all not so important things I know... although I read that TessCrazy has suffered problems trying to upload songs which now appear to must be atleast 1 minute... I can only guess why... much less important is that the and smileys don't show up in Opera...

but well, you asked for "no matter how small" so...

keep it up mud, you're doing great work.

Yes well the profile was a weird thing. It turned out my biography was missing completely, as I checked it by visiting my home without being logged in - it just wasn't there. My AIM wasn't either - though I'm dead sure I added that one again after the crash. And now you've made me fill in my gender. I kinda liked it not having to fill that in though... (not that I'm some sort of freak, I just don't think it's very important to have that stressed out so much - I mean my pic should point one or two things out pretty clearly, right? if you zoom in on that you can even see some of the things that frequently occupy my mind )

Oh well... I'm glad you got one or two things working fine again though!

There's another little thing I noticed - members' links (in home pages) with a long description "run off the screen" if you know what I mean... Instead of the description taking up a couple of lines of text, it just goes on and on right off the page and out of the screen... Very weird effect.

and the stars you've recently re-introduced are not functioning suddenly... they were this morning (local time) but now they're not? However they DO seem to work in the mailbox... just sent a message, and in the sent-box the star to that mail was yellow until I had opened it.

yea... and posting in the blog ain't really fetching either.... just posted a new post, you can see for yourself what has happened! It's adding dashes at apostrophes and writes codelike "quote" when using, well, the quotation mark...

and those smilies are still not visible in Opera... but I could swear the chat function was working perfectly from opera for a while yesterday (see the "Christmas lights" post) I dunno what you've changed afterwards?

and pressing the "link" icon (previously "GO!") doesn't take you to the end of the thread when it has more than one page (like this one).

there's one last thing... now listening to songs from the Hall of Fame ( how friggin' cool that The AMP !!!) if I press the downward arrow next to a song title, it's supposed to download right? Hmmm right now it opens a new browser page and starts playbacking the song with some quicktime player... but I want it to download, don't know how to do that, and I'm not going to upgrade to "pro"

Keep it up man, all these new features - what an AWESOME job for just one weekend... but wow you must be drinking a lot of coffee.... The hours you put into this...

Man, would appriciate you broke you bugs down into posts... It's really overwhelming going through a huge post like this...

(1) The gender is important because there is an icon in the forum which specifies the gender... I really like have in there, kinda like some people saying the country is not important, but I like having the icon there... So requiring it now. Sorry if it bugs you.

(2) Do you mean: https://puppetxeno.bandamp.org/biography.html ? It looks fine to me...

(3) Yeah, I'll work on the stars, was messing around with the script... trying to cut down on database requests, guess it got broken in the process...

(4) You must have put actual quotes into the message? Like windows or mac quotes... you have to use the "blah blah blah" — real quotes wont work, you must use the inch sign. I would have to add some bbcode to get the real quotes working.

(5) Sorry about things not working in other browsers... Would really appiciate it if someone would help me to make everything work on multiple browsers... Entheon was doing that (and the new design he converted for me should all work cross browser) — But he has not had any time latelly. This is probabally something he would be able to fix, however. He's great at making thins work universally.

(6) Yeah... I probably should disable that feature. Currently the flash program I'm using to embed will not accept custom links, however, I emailed them about it, and they said perhaps next version...

ok sorry I didn't mean to overwhelm...

hey if anything, I'm only trying to help out the best I can. I cannot code because I'm not patient with computers... I'd love to learn one day, but I just don't have the time for it. We all have our own expertise...

on 2) well I added it again. but apparently it somehow went lost one day... perhaps it's been lost for very long, not sure. anyways I tried the profile edit and it worked so...

on 4) no, I really used the " (calling that quotation mark, because it's commonly used as - it didn't occur to me to call it an inch mark. any way, posting in blogs, it screws up when using these symbols: ' " ) like "it's" turns out looking like "it/'s" and the inch sign will do something flimsy, showing code.

so well ok... if I come across more bugs, I'll post them seperately... but I mean the best, like always.

and ofcourse that gender stuff don't bug me. why should it? 'was just sum chit chat.
ok cya...

Sorry for coming off sounding a little rude, I really do appriciate your helping me. It's invaluable, especially since no one else seems to be reporting things that *should* work right... which is important. I'm just feeling a little bad today cause my back hurts, and I feel like I've not been getting enough done lately — I've got a few other projects other than BandAMP that need some serious attention... So anyways, thanks for reporting this stuff.

About the blogs, was just looking into that, and tested typing "quotes" on your blog post, with quotes, this is the results: https://puppetxeno.bandamp.org/blog/13228.html — So seems to be working for me as of right now, perhaps give it another try? Would be strange if it was an operating system dependant problem...

I think that is everything? I know there were a few browser specific errors (or javascript)... but I'm not going to mess with those right now. Think everything in the past two pages are finished though, lemme know.

ok, from FireFox the last page thing works fine..

as does seem everything else...

but now I can't post in my blog at all, I just tried a couple of times, both from Opera and Firefox, but after I press "post" it just resets to my member page, showing only the blogs that were already there... I tried opening the existing blog posts, where your test post is visible, but there are no new entries... Ofcourse, to test, I wrote posts using ' and ", but also without them, no luck.

that's probably the last thing I can think of now. bc I did actively search for bugs lately... so super thanks for all your work, but please take it easy... "not getting enough done" oh wow... have tea instead of coffee

thanks,
cya!

super

look, it works, even!

----(edit)----

there are some things with the blog still though... right now not working (can't post), and the " still turns to & quot ; in all browsers, though I think to have noticed (this morning) to see the ' bu I hg showing up in Opera and IE, but when I refreshed the page in IE, the bug was gone. That one seems to be gone completely now... or my mind plays tricks with me.

And The Amp (but I gather this and other things are work in progress) gets screwed when trying to switch to "My Playlist" (currently set to Hall of Fame, atleast it is with me), it tries to sort of reload, and what you get then is the Player-interface being replaced with a part of the usual BandAmp header (with the logo and The Amp, Navigation, Search, Log in/out links) placed hovering over the full header. The links on the incomplete copy even seem to function though.

ok... be well... and good night.

Aight, fixed that — was just a silly link. This kind of thing just pops up whenever I'm working on the code, whenever you change a variable name, or the url of a page, you have to be sure it's changed in thirty other .php files... So you kinda see how this stuff pops up, but *very* glad you are reporting them.

As far as the blogs go, they are still very beta... I'll be working on them more in the near future. I really should start focusing on my RealReviews project now. So much to do, so little time

I think that you must have come from the forum to the login page, otherwise it would forward you to my home. If you are browsing bandamp, it will forward you to the page that you were on before you pressed you went to log in.

The Feburary battle did not have enough votes for it to finish: https://forum.bandamp.org/Feedback/18621.html

I'm moving some of the songs into the current battle...

Error uploading photos (IE6)
Hi Mud - welcome back!

still getting:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare blockedurls() (previously declared in /web/functions/url_block.php:3) in /web/functions/url_block.php on line 19

...attempting to upload photos in My HomepageAlbum. Sometimes screen refresh (retry) will work (ref. Jim DaADtman) but lately no joy. Browser is IE6.

Like the new Chatroom btw.

Well it seems you cant re enter any song that has already been in a battle, even though it wasnt ranked in that particular battle due to lack of votes, I am not sure it this a policy or just a bug?

it was JimkDaAdtman's fault, lol. Guess it was not filtering out ""... anyways, that's what broke it, it works now.

I didn't do it...   Yeah see... I was.. ummm.... I was at the airport picking up my mom... yeah.. see... so... umm.... yeah... I couldn't have done it....   umm... see?

Izle: Chat is working fine now?

Yah, if it's completed a battle you cannot re-enter it... No songs since Aug have completed a battle though, due to lack of votes... This current month already looks valid though, so that's a good sign. Please remember to vote!

I've just released any songs which were in "purgatory"...

Did not realize they'd been stuck.

That was 169 songs in total.

Hi Mud, just tried this again & it all worked fine. Am currently using a different userid on the same PC, so my browser cache / settings will all be different (same BandAMP userid though). Will retry later today with my usual config.

Calling URL was: https://my.bandamp.org/my_album.html

Stats
Just a small thing. The stats screen doesn't appear to be working properly at the moment- only noticed this in the last few days. There's a lot of songs that are showing plenty of votes yet have blank stats screens.

I use IE6 BTW but I've never had problems with the stats before- indeed some still work so I doubt it's a browser thing.

PS Thanks for your work and this site in general. It's helping me a lot.

I just wanted to let everyone know, I'm working on all the bugs on the Development version of BandAMP. I'm also working on implementing the new design (a revised version of the one that was up for a few days before the server crashed a few months ago).

Here's an image of it:

Just wanted to let you guys know I'm still around working on BandAMP, just @ another mysterious URL.

I've been having these account/profile problems for about a month now, and they're becoming somewhat of a nuisance, so I'd really appreciate it if anyone can help me out:

First, I was wondering why I can only see ~48 characters of the link descriptions I typed, when the limit is ~250?  Kinda defeats the purpose of a description when I can only read the first 6 words, eh?

Second, about my photo album:  I can't seem to edit, delete or set as default any of the pictures.  I can just view them.  Am I missing something?

Thanks

Marg

File upload problems
I have attempted to upload two files today. The first one kept telling me I already had a song with that name, so I went back to the forum and then back to My BandAmp, did it again and it worked. The second one just refuses, saying that I already have a song by that name. The mp3s are uniquely named on my PC, the song titles are unique, what gives?
Other than that, I really like BandAmp. It's a great site and a lot of fun.

Blog edit
Hi Mud, put up a blog on my homepage at last. Put in my email address but this got reformatted incorrectly when I saved the blog. Cured by putting the email address in quotes but I can't edit / remove the original blog.
