The End of BandAMP? |
We have recently received word from Mud, (who many of you know is the owner and originator of the site) that he is undergoing some financial challenges and thereby may choose to discontinue financial support of the site at the end of this year. This has serious implications for the continued operations of the site, as Mud has been financing and providing occasional maintenance to the server. This issue has been met with some discussion among the three of us, (Tritonkeyboarder, who has served as our volunteer site Programmer and Administrator, Kings and Battlecat who have served as volunteer Moderators) for the past couple of days, as we pondered the best way to approach this situation.
Responding to some questions posed recently in an email exchange with Tritonkeyboarder, Mud states: It's $100 per month for the server (including bandwidth ect) it's running on, past that there are no expensesit's running on an 100mbps unmetered line, it's a bit overkill, but not much more expensive than a metered bandwidth line.
This news raises more questions, such as: Can the BandAMP community achieve a takeover of the expenses for continued operation of the server? If the community is indeed interested in doing so, how will we raise the money? (Donations? Memberships Fees? Allowing commercial advertising on the site?) If we were somehow able to produce the money each year, would Mud continue to maintain the server for us?
Naturally, it was agreed that we should bring this issue to the BandAMP community for discussion and possible action.
Originated in 2003, BandAMP is quite unique in that it is a community that is extensive, yet intimate. People from all over the world have been able to develop friendships with one another that have existed for years even though they may never have seen each other in person. Originally designated for the promotion and development of independent music artists, the site evolved into a community of people that converse about a variety of topics, from world events to mysticism to celebrations of a members birthday. People who are separated by thousands of miles of ocean have been able to create music together through collaboration projects. Efforts are currently underway to produce an album compilation of BandAMP community members music. Through participation in the forums, people are able to exchange information, support and inspiration for the continued development of their artistry. These are merely a few of the activities that are taking place on the site.
Undoubtedly, this issue will warrant further discussion and action. Some questions remain: Do you feel the site is worth saving? Would you be willing to chip in and help in any way you can?
Suggestions and assistance are welcome.

Hear ! Hear !
and the same here too !

Well large chunk large chunk welll I am certainly up to financially supporting the site, even though I'm not as active - but this place is in my heart always, and would not want to see it go. I can easily donate monthly if that's what it takes. Yet IMO this site should be free for the most part, so those who opt to finance it should do this solely on a voluntary basis. I'm up for a Skype meeting to discuss this issue.
Well this are the costs NOW!
As we published before (https://forum.bandamp.org/Announcements/32918.html) Mud was thinking about to move BandAmp to a new server with likely more options and less cost. It's not possible to reduce the costs of the old server and switch to another rate.
In case of movement lots of things have to be prepared first before the step can be taken. Like a real movement everything must have its same place w/o new programmings.
I know what has to be done and how a possible new server should be configured although the old one is running properly. But if the costs can be reduced we should do it.
Another idea of mine was to take the earnings of published albums for reinvestments. What do you think?
edit:
And the server (wherever it is located) needs somebody to push a button or do daily backups (changing tapes?)
But this is what it needs

This was my first thought when I read the announcement. It makes sence to use possible incomes of an / or further album/s for keeping the site running. And why not placing commercials on the site ?
Nearly on every site in the web are commercials, pop-ups and dunnowhatelse .
I´m afraid of the imagination that a handful of members invest some money to keep the site alive coz it might be able to deflect interests , relationships , states of members in case of possible discussions or dissents.
It´s an absolutely honorable idea to spend money as Swordy or Denis suggested.
But I think this is dangerous for a community . There´s an old german saying : "Geld zerstört Freundschaft"
which means : "money destroys friendship".
I think we should generate money as other sites do. A bit more professionality seems to be needed.
On the amp is so much really good musical material . We can release one album every 3 month .
Why not throwing it onto the market? Why not making ourselves heard ?

popups no, relevant ads no problem -
and about generating money via album sales, may not be very realistic.... That will take too much organisation than we are capable of (as a community) and sorry for putting this harshly, but it's true. We are hobbyists all with loads of other stuffs demanding our time and attention, and getting any album to sell one needs hard time consuming marketing.. Arguably money generated from BandAMP compilation albums might be invested in maintaining the site but still but they need to sell first. Having talent and great music isn't enough. In fact good marketing can sell complete crap to triple platinum (and it does over and over and over), but if you don't put muscle behind your uttermost brilliant releases.... Sales stop at zero.
The main issue is how to finance the upkeep of BandAMP... for real.
Wow, such big news in so little time. I love this site to death and it is literally the most unique and best forum type website I have ever seen. This site means so much to me and is worth so much. We cannot and will not let the uniqueness of bandAMP die. If there's one thing I hate...its ads...most generally of any kind. Especially because when and if we agree to put ads on this site, then someone will add a few more...and then a few more...and then there's the occasional pop up and then there's those friggin annoying ads that when you mouse over them they get giant. If we bring ads into bandamp...it will RUIN the uniqueness. Thats half the reason why bandamp is so great! NO ADS!!! So please people...while we need to do anything we can to save this site...adding ads is like gutting out the vital organs and leaving a vegetable on the table.
Hey guys,
Sorry for not logging in for like forever, but Kunadiun (craig) let me know about this so I should hop on and say something.
This site doesn't really need to be run on a 100 dollar per month server/connection. I know that you can get VPS Dedicated servers for like 50 dollars or less per month which would probably make keeping the site up easier for everyone.
Also, when we move, will we keep the old songs and everything that we have here on bandamp already? Perhaps it's time to start over?
If we started over and fresh, then we could market the site from a new perspective, perhaps change it up a bit?
I love this old bandamp theme, but maybe we could change that up a bit too? What forum software does bandamp run on anyways?
If this is then end for this particular "incarnation" of bandamp, then this is the end I suppose, but we should keep the community going somehow.
How about I set up a temporary forum (or "meeting point") running on hosting that I pay for where we can all meet in case this forum goes down. something like bandamp.mydailytech.com, just a little forum where we can keep it all together i guess....

other sites do offer similar service and look better too!!!...
and are also free.
if our current total membership with more than one post is currently 1,482
and that figure stretches back to the start of the site!!!!
then our active regular posting membership must currently be very low indeed..
And it kinda follows that the active number of songwriters must also be very very very low ......
its a shame but maybe it is time for it to wither on the vine????

it would be interesting to know how many have used the site over the last month or two...

The more I think about this the more planning and resourches needed.
We really need to get our heads together on this for it work.
So Let's get together and have a dicsussion, I don't think we can sort this out in a forum.
So who's up for a Skype meeting?

It would work eventually, but like anything you have to stick to it
I think the most realistic answer is for the few who feel they want to get up and say weyeeiieieyi ...
Agree on who is in , have each member to automatically send their equal share to 'muds' account, if we can get it to notify us of a payment stopping , we could split it up equally again ......
Things like adverts and banners and sharing and links and freeer sites and servers can still be discussed as usual but with a greater sense of reality.
We might also come to the conclusion that with a little bit of money coming in we could do a lot more .....
As I review Swordfish's link regarding site traffic, Bandamp fares pretty poorly - then I notice some of the names of the high performers: "Jizzhut", "Spankwire"....hmmmm.....maybe we're in the wrong business?
Seriously, I also agree with PX that it may be unrealistic to expect to fund the site with sales alone, or to be able to manage the major effort required to put together and market an album with the expectation of garnering regular profit (it may be a fun project as a sideline, however, and if it generates money to help the site that's great!) Look at us now, we have sporadic participation and most people are pretty busy with their own lives. Probably the most reasonable and secure way of funding the site is going to be through donations until we're able to demonstrate greater energy and participation in the long run (although I see ULI's point of concern about this as well).

Yep I too agree that funding the site through album sales is impossible in this case.
I think the only way to keep BandAMP alive and healthy is to get enough advertisements on the site to pay the bills and start a fresh new server and database. And so that nobody unexpectedly loses their music, send out an email to everyone before the old database is erased.
I don't think it's sustainable to just run the site with donations, wouldn't want to be the guy chasing up everyone's monthly payments!
A new site with new fresh members really might work as this current site is doom to fail since it hasn't been getting decent traffic in the last 5 years.

@Chill , there's no need chasing anyone ..... and they are not donations ... say 4 of us take the decision to pay 200 euros each every year , that comes to 800 euros a year, roughly the 1200 dollars we need.
To a simple tradesman as my self that's less than a days wage per year.... I'm ok with that.
The rest of the members (or non members) can donate as they please, at least the main server cost are covered.
If it gets cheaper to run or there are loads of donations or we sell a million albums ..... well done ... happy days are here again ! We can start growing.
As long as the basic costs are met, which can be done by a handful of us....the rest is all extra.

Yeah, exactly.
So now we need to know whether BandAMP is still going to move to a less expensive server (like TK reminded us of), when this is going to happen, when we are expected to take over upkeep, do we (or who gets) full control of the site (if mud pulls out, I suspect he will or must forfeit ownership), and the list of people willing to pay a share (ie. become shareholders

questions demanding answers!
Good questions.... and a few good points ....
We know it is not immediate and we do know it does, according to him, depend on Muds personal situation which he will be assessing later on this year.
Will Mud want to give up bandAMP completely ? I denno !
We can enter an agreement between say 5 of us and Mud to share the costs?
Or we do it with say 4 of us and we simply take it over from Mud.... we can take it over with 10 but then you need an inner circle to take decisions.
As to when .... we either need to show Mud we have the mechanism in place to accept responsibility and take over of the site.
Otherwise we need to start a constructive discussion with Mud, and get the answers from him.
Denis and bc can formulate the shareholders agreement !! ; )
TK can you make a Shareholders Forum ? A bit like admin .... somewhere we can ... talk !
I foresee Skype being a bit hectic getting a word in and getting a conclusion ... lack of talking stick to pass around.
A forum will have the comments for all concerned to see and assess.

I use GoDaddy.com for my website, I did quite a bit of research before opting with them, it's cheap and no complaints with the service, they even have a telephone helpline that is linked somehow to a UK land line that connects with the USA, thus I only pay UK rates, I called them twice and the service was excellent.
So who is going to deal with Mud out of interest?

i am of the let it die on the vine persuasion after talking to myself a lot....shame
I'm not. I think people are willing to let things die way too easily in life in general, mostly because it requires the least effort (do nothing), and then they end up in the slow drag of the masses, which is nothing but a weak compromise tailored only to the basic needs of the many, holding nothing in particular for the individual. Commerce shines there, but exclusively from a top-down point of view, and guess where you'll find yourself standing...
You could say let's all move to facebook or myspace or what have you but fat chance you'll find me there. Too massive. People only pay attention to the popular thing of the day and all too easily overlook, ignore or forget the little guy who'd like some feedback on his latest noodle. Not gonna find it there... But BandAMP fulfills that niche. So yeah, hang on to it I'd say.

To be honest guys without Mud I honestly think that bandAMP will sadly end. Even if we finance it, we are all too busy to maintain it. That is the bottom line.
If Mud is happy to stay in control with our financial assistance, needless to say I believe it will work, providing we remain loyal to him.
Hard to say but we don't need Mud's assistance. Mud even doesn't follow backup procedures.
As I said before we just need somebody to push a button if it's necessary. The last time we needed Mud took us one week before the system could be restarted. If the server and it's operating system is configured properly there is no need to push a button. The recent server is not.
Just an example (scenario):
A managed server is located at a socalled "host" on the attic or in the garden or better in an air conditioned and managed datacenter. The host provides an Internet connection (100mbps?) to fullfill bandwidth dreams. And there is a dedicated and managed firewall at this location to prevent attacks by intruders. As long as it's up and running there is no need to act. Backups could be done via Internet... takes one day or two but it's always better to backup the system on the local server by tape or whatever and it wouldn't bebad to have a recovery CD to setup the system quickly in case of loosing harddiscs.
Some points of this scenario have been done by Mud, just some but not all. I believe that Mud doesn't even have access to the firewall to open or close some ports. All requests in the past have been ignored. No reaction.
The recent PHP programmings are based on an old FreeBSD Linux and needs some adaptions to make it work on Ubuntu or another OS. But that's not our recent problem
I did some researches at the greatest german provider site 1und1.de, they offer:
OS Linux (full root access)
1 CPU, 1 GB RAM, 100 GB diskspace = 39,99 Euro per month
1 CPU, 1 GB RAM, 200 GB diskspace = 44,99 Euro per month
1 CPU, 2 GB RAM, 100 GB diskspace = 44,99 Euro per month
1 CPU, 2 GB RAM, 200 GB diskspace = 49,99 Euro per month
unlimited actions in traffic
latest hardware
manageable firewall
hotline 24/7
datacenter environment
Shell access via SSH
this system is declared as a cloud server
If we ask Mud to offer "us" a similar system so why not keep him or his company as "The Host".
As I said before we just need somebody to push a button if it's necessary. The last time we needed Mud took us one week before the system could be restarted. If the server and it's operating system is configured properly there is no need to push a button. The recent server is not.

To be honest guys without Mud I honestly think that bandAMP will sadly end. Even if we finance it, we are all too busy to maintain it. That is the bottom line.
If Mud is happy to stay in control with our financial assistance, needless to say I believe it will work, providing we remain loyal to him.
well Denis I am not totally with you. We ARE able to maintain a system like that resp. a provider can do it for us. See my post above.

Is Mud happy with this? Are you happy to do this work, do you have the time?
What about the legality side of things, who is going to sort that out?
"happy with this?"??
Mud bears the heavy load of (t)his baby all over the years and his short message has shown us that Mud has a mighty finger.
I believe that it's been a big mistake to decide: "the site is yours". It has never been "our" site even we (I) had control over it. If Mud is not willing to power on the system after restart failures or any other faults then Bandamp is no longer present and he has to agree to give away the domain name, if it would come to that.
For example I could make a shutdown of the system and could have a look how long it takes to power on the server by a strange hand. But that's totally against my enthusiasm.
What "work" do you mean and what happiness?
It's not the question of happiness and the site is running w/o doing anything. It's a simple server with 1 CPU, 1GB RAM and some disk space and (!) a nice forum software that brought us together to become virtual friends and sometimes in real (hey Tom., Bas..
)
Now to see that it might be over (and the opera ain't over until the fat lady sings) doesn't make me happy and we have to find a solution.
Now my advice: Let's have a talk with Mud before this thread drifts into a wrong direction. Bring him to join the community again to answer all our questions.
btw.
Thanks to all who are willing to keep Bandamp alive, I take my hat off to them
sorry for my chinese english

Mud wrote or compiled this site, he started it off, along with a few others .... but I think this is the only one with a forum.
If you go to nofunc.com you'll find bits of bandAMP code being offered as downloads .... litebox (picture display in Albums), the Five star voting system and alike.
Mud does not have to have anything to do with bandAMP, as TK says it is no problem hosting the site anywhere in the world ..... considering Swordys observation that it is a predominantly European take over there is no reason why it cannot be hosted in Europe ....
But yea! It is still Muds site, he put it here ... though if he has a plan or not he does seem to be letting it go .... he's had TK to do any coding / database maintenance ..... members have always moderated..... and he does very little, except pay for it !
If he still wants to keep it as his 'baby' while we pay for it, I'm not into, I will become an equal holder but then we must have total control of it too. I dont think any of the members who do 'join in' want to drastically change the site because we like it for what it is ... but I do think we are all agreed that it needs to develop and work as an Indi Music site .... For Musicians By Musicians !
Shit! With a little patient perseverance we could get this site moving again .... yes to sharing links with other sites or banners or whatever ... yes to DIGGing a few good songs sometimes .... yes to facebook ... No!
Yes to all good innovative ideas especially when the site is ours.

what?.........if?...... |
As I can see there essentially two options : Either we can keep Bandamp running (I hope so) or - in case of dying of this site - it makes sence to look for an alternative site . Not easy, but in addition to Bandamp I´ve found a similar site with a forum , a votingreview system , link system , cover display on your profile ,widgets, stats (not working very well, but who cares), friendship requests, tons of tags , 6 different CC-lincenes ,commercial options., radios, blogs and much much more.
It´s also a nice and friendly community in 8 different languages where I placed an album of 10 tracks.
If the "worst case" will happen actually this could be a possibility to stay together for some of us.
So , here´s the link to "Jamendo" for ya´ll to explore the site

Why the FLIP are a lot of you now believing that this is the end of bandamp and nothing else can be done and we'll have to go off to other music sites. The solution is simple and easy as many of you have pointed out, like TK for instance. I'm not in the least bit worried about this being the end of bandamp. We can get through this.

Hey fishman , what´s up ? Why this reaction ?
This is just a "brainstorming" , a discussion . Everyone´s throwing his thoughts and ideas "in the box" to find out what can be done to save our forum.

As I have it most people in this thread do not think that this is the end, and have showed willingness to support the site financially atleast. There's always someone attempting to raise hysteria ofcourse, but faring an emotional course will not help decide what action to take much at all. That action must be taken, however, is evident, and so far people have been trying to think of possible solutions to the problem. Let's sum it up:
If we do nothing, and mud decides to stop paying for server space, BandAMP ceases to exist. A part of the community may decide to move to alternative sites, and so a legacy will live on, but that's basically it.
If we can make an agreement with mud, and a few of us set up monthly payment to financially support mud, he will keep BandAMP running pretty much as is, as he will not have a valid reason to pull the plug anymore. I think we have enough people willing to make these donations to not really "feel" that in our wallets per individual. But there are some points to this solution, as TK points out, will not solve an essential structural problem with the management of the site.
To get management in order, some parts of muds role need to be taken over, and not just the financial part; updating and keeping an eye on the actual software, databases, backups - essential maintenance, things that are not being done now, but are very important in running a site. Someone who has the "absolute" control, and is actually actively paying attention to it. It's not even that much work, but it has to be done.
So this brings us to the point where we need to come to an agreement, and distill what actions we should take. And, WHO should take WHAT action. Do we want the site AND the management to move? Or will we just forward some money to mud and let him "Deal" with the situation, pretty much keeping things as they are and risking all the side effects of having no backups and rapidly aging forum software not being updated?
Atleast most of us understand that hysteria is not an option, and this certainly isn't the end.
Good word PX,
we are all talking about Mud and his possible plans, and it came to thread#39 now. I am still missing his statement. As I mentioned before, let Mud speak for himself.
@thebigguy
make a concept on how a possible new site can look like, where it's hosted, who pays for it in the case you don't like ads and don't want to place it in your concept
are you willing to do the programmings, maintenances?
@ the community:
Get in touch with Mud. all these coulds, woulds, maybes are useless until we have clear things and opinions on the table for making decisions.

My support |
Hey ampers...
I have been out of sight for a very very long time. Today i had this urge to enter bandamp again and found this thread.
Right now i'm not in position to help the site financially and (even) i don't think i have any bright ideas to bring in... i just wanted to say that after all this years my heart is still with you and i hope the comunity can find a solution on time.
Tomas.

My biggest concern IF the site remains is whether or not the servers will be updated... Crawlers seem to be able to access the BandAMP songfile database far too easily.
As for keeping the site up, I'm in high school and unemployed, so I can't do much. Keep us updated though, I think all of us joined BandAMP for a reason!

Right now it is time to read what mud has to say. I do not know if there has been any talk with him yet, I feel it is TK's, battlecats and kings place to ask mud to talk with us, the community, publicly here in this thread. Then we can state our ideas and wishes, and work out a deal. I do not feel it my place to contact mud directly myself, so I hope he can be asked to make an appearance soon.
Question: Whats with the sides of bandamp now being greyish/white? Does this have anything to do with this thread or any new changes taking place at the code level of bandamp?

Well, I honestly don't think this is BandAMP's end. Not at all! I'm 100% sure this will work out somehow and within a few months we will have forgotten all this... "drama".
But, of course!, for this to work it needs of our hard work. I'd love to collaborate but I neither know about programming (just REALLY basic Java and Python) nor have any money at all since I don't work and I'm a simple university student. Anyway, if there's something I could do please tell me!
I just have an awkward feeling about a bunch of us (you) paying for the service. I'd feel like owing you people but unable to pay. But then, for all I've read so far, there's no other way to keep the Amp alive.
It's a dilemma I have.
Well, I can't think of much to contribute right now but I wanted to state that I'll be here for BandAMP whenever the community needs me. I owe to much to this website and to the great people I've met here.
Take care, lads!

Hey, uh, so it's my turn to pitch in.
I've been looking over the server again (I still had access that TK gave me back when the rewrite was happening). Despite all that has gone for rewrites, updates, and server movements, it looks to me that nothing has happened. I propose a few steps to make things move:
1- Rewrite the website, duplicating exactly what we know and love about BandAMP. No feature changes (except to fix things that don't actually work as advertised, like photo uploads, etc). This will immediately provide a benefit in the form of allowing other community members to wrap their heads around our code, so that they can contribute.
2- Stage it on a server. We can use the bandamp server, or I have a VPS (virtual private server) that I pay for which could host it. We could run it on new.bandamp.com or something.
3- Figure out a sane way to migrate the database. The current database is a giant steaming pile of crap. I was just going over its structure to map how a new design, and I'm shocked that there are clear-text passwords in there. My thought is that it will be difficult to run the new site code on the same database structure, but we could try. This would mean using the bandamp server and not a separate VPS. There's no way in hell I'd want to expose the database to the public IP for remote access.
4- Begin to gather feedback about basic feature changes. For example, we use a Flash player right now, and I'd like to see it go HTML5 (with a Flash fallback) so that mobile devices can begin to access the site in a useful way.
5- Open up the new code to more contributors. We could run a simple mailing list, or have private forums for that sort of thing.
6- Once things are running smoothly, we get off of the old bandamp code entirely. We should be mostly ready for this in (at most) 6 months.
The ordering on some of those steps could be rearranged, but the point is that we should be ready for the jump long before it is actually required to happen (end of year, as I recall from the first post).
I'm really happy to hear that people are willing to contribute to the site's maintenance costs. Just the same, I'd like to see us cut costs were possible to make sure we're not wasting anybody's money. My VPS provider is found at the following address, and they give you complete root access with a bare-bones OS so that you can manage it however you want:
https://www.datarealm.com/hosting-services/vps-hosting.php
I'm happy with it so far.
I've got more thoughts, on the topic of disk space. our current server has a usable partition of 143GB, and we've got 61GB free. That number is pretty good, considering the space we're using for all kinds of files, loose backups (there's one in the home directory of the media files).
I should mention now that I'm already working on a clean-slate rewrite of the site itself, with no new features. This is easy. Where this got away from me in the past is when we started trying to get fancy before we knew what we wanted. None of that this time. This thing will be so easy to administer and contribute to that we'll be crying with happiness.
Thoughts? Maybe we could move deeper conversation to a new thread, if needed?
Love you guys.

I'm happy to read your plans, it sounds like this is a course we should be taking. We will still need to hear from mud - we wouldn't want to "hijack" or otherwise take the site out of his hands without his "go" first. It is still his project even if it may be time for him to let go of it, but we need his words, right here, right now-ish.
Other than that you're presenting a hopeful future there, TLS!

Great plans you have my friend, but for what?
If you like to take over the whole ssystem incl. codings, database and hardware and redesign of the look & feel of the site, so let me ask why?
Is it just because you can do it or does it have any background I still don't know yet?
I don't count my chicken befroe they are hatched.
Like PX said, a word from Mud would be very useful in this state of conversation.
Bandamp doesn't need complex and self-developed software (did you think about publishing your codings wiki-like comments included?). And I don't think the database is crap. For this kind of using it helped us out for years now. It's simple and slim and it works. And as long as noone is screwing at the server Bandamp works forever....
We have some security, organizational and technical issues, ok. By time this can be solved and we solved a lot in the past. So I think you can't say that nothing has happened since your last visit. The frontend hasn't changed but we worked a lot in the backend. But first we need to know exactly what the community would love to see, I think Mud's statement at least. After receiving it we can discuss a new concept. But be aware there are hundreds of people with hundreds of opinions about how to place a website forum like BandAMP in the right corner. Right now we are not at this state (imho)

I´m not competent enough to judge about the technical quality of our site.
For me as a jerk it´s fine. Clear , relatively simple, not too many features and options, it works fast and stabile.
There only 2 points I´d like to see improved :
1 : on the ´audio review-site is the category "VIEWS" . It displays how many clicks a song gets but not how many
real listens. I can click 10 times one track but that doesn´t say that I´ve listened 10 times to a song , yunno?
This brings me to point >>>
2 : the stats . If this tool would work , we all had an overview about the real amount of listeners.
Anything else is fine to me
U . L . I .
P.S. After clicking "post" now it jumps to side one of a / this topic instead side 4 where we are now. Point 3

Visually, I think the site should stay the same. I love the way this looks and runs...its so diffrent and unique from other forums and it honestly just feels like home. There's no clutter, no crap, and its so simple and smooth.
I do like what ULI was saying about the stats thing...I've always wanted that to work.
1. You/we can't tell the player that a song was heard until end. As far as I know the wimpy player we are using doesn't have any callback functions to get the progress in percentage or a simple "True" when it reached the end. So it's easier to count the initial click.
2. The stat thing is part of the webserver. The server has to be stopped to unlock and close the open file before performing some analysis by a script which has to be started manually. The script runs through all rows and sets the play clicks into the right month and date. Then it clears the file. After that the webserver hast to be restarted and it creates a new stat file to collect all data. The last time I did like that was followed by a frozen server a few days later and it took us a week to find a finger to press the reset button. To move this statistics into the database (where it belongs to imo) is fine but results into php codings again what scared me to do. Don't know how big this file is at the moment, but it seems to have some 100mb.
TLS could type the above circumstances into the FAQ section of our site.

So! TLS ... I only wished you happy birthday and that maybe a few ideas wouldn't go amiss, I personally liked a lot of ideas you had .... last time .
As for now, lots of cool ideas and loads of good positive energy ... but .... DO NOT GO CHANGING ANYTHING WHERE BANDAMP OR BANDAMPS SERVER IS CONSERNED ..... THANK YOU
We've been at it quietly keeping this place going while everyone does their thing, getting married, going to work, getting divorced, looking for work ..... a lot of things happen to a lot of people in a space of time .....
A welcome back to you Tim, but keep your pants on and let us carry on what we were doing. ......
Like going from light grey to black to light grey and back again !!

Just wanted to acknowledge the comments about keeping things the same-- it would be really premature to try to change the way things operated unless we had a good grasp on the code (and how to modify it safely). I've got no problem with new features in the long run, but of course step 1 is pretty straightforward: duplicate what we have.
I'm really not completely sure what you mean. My comments about servers are just me exploring. Earlier in the thread there was discussion about how much the current server costs per month, and Mud talking about how some of the bandwidth allotment might be overkill. Other than that I am uninterested in the platform, so long as it is modern enough to install recent versions of software.
Here are my feelings about our current situation right now, which hopefully provides insight into my perspective:
- website hard-codes admins and their ID numbers directly into a z_func.php file. Not ideal, especially since that file is named poorly.
- website is written in PHP that is incredibly hard to parse, even for people who know PHP
- the code uses insecure and outdated features of PHP versions of the past (like some strange uses of automatic variable globals)
- the HTML and CSS are equally hard to read, and are harder for members of the community to analyze or change. People have expressed a desire to have a choice of a lighter theme, because they don't like the darker feel. Will they ever get what they want if we just hand them a mess of CSS and tell them to have at it? The more ideal solution would be to fix up the HTML, modernize the HTML and CSS, and name the files accurately. I don't know about anybody else, but "forge.css" doesn't tell me much, particularly since some of the forge styles are used in the forum listings (nothing to do with comment boxes).
I'm proposing nothing more than what PHP is. PHP is the ultimate in homebrew, and it's complex the way it's written right now. What I propose is using a Python framework called Django, which is anything but complex. It's widely used, uses standard the implementation mechanism, namely the WSGI protocol, which works in the Apache web server via mod_wsgi, and any other modern web server. "self-developed" is irrelevant-- everything is self-developed at some level. I definitely want to have the code be available to everyone, even publicly. I published the code from the previous rewrite in an SVN repository, for the record.
You are right-- I don't mean to say that nobody's done any work. I'm saying that we've only treated symptoms, instead of solving the problem of a wobbly PHP foundation.
I know, and my goal is to replicate the existing site first, preparing for customization, but not changing anything yet. Members of the community don't have a fair opportunity to have their feedback implemented unless with fix the foundation first.

Bandamp doesn't need complex and self-developed software (did you think about publishing your codings wiki-like comments included?).

So I think you can't say that nothing has happened since your last visit.
You are right-- I don't mean to say that nobody's done any work. I'm saying that we've only treated symptoms, instead of solving the problem of a wobbly PHP foundation.

But first we need to know exactly what the community would love to see, I think Mud's statement at least. After receiving it we can discuss a new concept. But be aware there are hundreds of people with hundreds of opinions about how to place a website forum like BandAMP in the right corner.
I know, and my goal is to replicate the existing site first, preparing for customization, but not changing anything yet. Members of the community don't have a fair opportunity to have their feedback implemented unless with fix the foundation first.
PS- is anybody trying to contact Mud? It has been suggested numerous times in this thread, but I certainly wouldn't know how to go about doing that. Any of the three admins would be great candidates for that.
Despite sentiments that the server shouldn't change, I think it's an established case that the current server is outdated a bit. Not that it causes the site to slow down, but from a technical angle, it's old, making it hard to use new web tools. It wouldn't need to happen right away or anything, but it's very realistic to consider a new server location. (kings pointed out that a lot of traffic comes out of the US, but I don't care where it's physically located.) Paying Mud the money to keep the current one would be less than great, because it means we'd keep the current (old) server and all of its frailties.
I think the golden question for Mud is as follows, because I think that any other questions will be answered in his reply:
Before the end of the year comes around, are we free to transplant the site elsewhere? Mud turned it over to "us" a few years ago-- how long is that leash?

After all words are spoken until now I am going to contact Mud at short sight.
Maybe I can get him to attend this conversation anyways.

Yes it is probably so that the server is still being run by a steam powered gnome but the gnome is ok and we have plans to relieve him ... when the time is right ... and he knows it .... so dont you worry about him.
I'm really not trying to be a jerk, but what exactly is that plan? We're paying a lot of lip service to allowing the community to decide, but so far it's unclear to me what the "reliving plan" is, and who decided it.
Lest anybody forget, we've all got an investment in the site, including me, despite whatever dislike anybody has for me unexpectedly rocking this boat.

what exactly is YOUR plan?
If you don't like what's going on here you're free to build your own community
What about your wonderful developments two years ago? Why did they/you disappear unexpectedly? Did you stop it? Did you force it? Where can I/we see it or check it out? Maybe Bandamp's server and services need some refreshments. To dig out the old jokes is counterproductive and rocks the boat - like you said - unnecessary.
You would help he community if you'd say you want to be a shareholder of Bandamp and would pay for it, if it comes to an end. After that let's talk about a redesign.
We've simply been discussing about a possible take over of BandAMP by some honorable members. Mud is the holder at present what we all know and if he's not willing to pay for it any longer then this domain runs into death. This is what we were talking about EXACTLY. I think your impact is a bit.off-topic in this special moment.
So lean back and be patient for a (long) while, time will tell, everything is possible, my friend.
.....and welcome back TLS
I already offered a plan in my first post, so I won't bore anyone with it again. The point is to verify and cut costs on the server package we have.
Anyone wondering about previous rewrite information, or why I was less active for a while, can read for themselves in the TORT thread, and my update about the immigration status of my wife. Let it be known that when I asked for help in that second thread, none came. None.
Since this thread is dedicated for shareholder coordination, are you opposed to having a separate discussion about the code? I get the feeling that people are thinking that replacing the code is one giant annoying task, but it's not that bad at all. I made a working framework for a replacement in just one day. I'm specifically avoiding distributing the link because I'm trying to reinforce the point that I'm not trying to divert the community into my own hands. This isn't about me making my own community. I'm only trying to fix a few things about the current one so that people get a real chance to have new features, better contests, or whatever it is that the community says they want.
I want to make it clear that I would absolutely never do this, but if I were to go and replace all the bandamp code overnight, server costs and donations would be unaffected. The code is a completely separate issue from finances.
I am an experienced programmer, not a philanthropist. I am paying for school to get a degree to validate my existing skills and hobbies. I can't contribute money. I can contribute code. May we create a separate discussion post for code? I suspect it may be just you and I, and maybe others as it gets more practical to add features. I'd love it if more people came to contribute, but experience has told me that that isn't how this works. This is why my comments have been in this thread so far.
If you are really set on waiting a long time and not doing anything with the code, then I suppose there will be nothing more for me to say.

TLS, you're all too right. We all want to do something to contribute to the AMP, whether it be musically or actually trying to save it, but we never take action. I am not pointing any fingers to anyone specifically: We're all culprits.
That's just about all I have to say for this matter right now.
Alas it is the nature of the beast ... |

It may be related but taking over this site in this way is a different matter, it has more to do with the ownership of the name, where it is hosted and who foots the bill....
So having to deal with you and the crusade is actually blinding us to what we should be looking at ..... at the moment.
I guess that's that. |
I'm not trying to stop anybody from hearing from Mud, so by all means, continue that effort. I just didn't realize that we couldn't multitask. I still stick to my story about name ownership, hosting, and finances being completely independent of code.
I apologize that my attempting to stir conversation has seemed like a crusade. Funny enough, I'm just asking questions, but not really getting answers or direct feedback. I'm only ever met with a bunch of sidestepping, which I hope you can see is quite frustrating. It's almost like I'm trying to have a conversation with a bunch of stoned people sitting in a room, trying to appeal to some part of their humanity which might excite them in some way. I get it, that we had different ideas of what the goal was in this thread, but I couldn't help but expect that when a thread called "the end of bandamp?" gets posted, that it might require some kind of urgency to find any way we can to stop it from happening, and to prevent it from happening in the foreseeable future.
Honestly, the fact that the two of you are so jaded by the prospect of code changes tells me a lot more than anything else that's been said... It's so funny that after so much disgust about inaction just a few years ago, that this is now the adopted mindset (for the time being).
I know I just walked into the site and started talking, and that it must feel like I brought a real tornado in with me, but I'm just a person sitting at my desk in my apartment, seeing a chance to give something that I couldn't give before. But, of course, if somebody doesn't want a gift, you can't force them to take it, particularly if they think you don't know what you're talking about.
I'm seriously baffled by why a code update isn't just turned into a side project that gets a chance to go somewhere. What the hell does anybody have to lose? I mean, seriously? Is there not room for two things to happen at once, simply by coincidence?
Alas, I've discovered this year that any questions I've asked went completely, utterly unanswered. (Deliberate non-discussion is probably the one thing that will drive me most crazy, fyi.) I've been disappointed at the calibre of the PMs and replies I've gotten. I've heard what you've said, but I guess you haven't heard what I've said, or decided to torture me by not acknowledging anything I'm talking about.
So.. basically, call me if you need me. I doubt anyone will take me up on that, frankly, but the offer is there, and I mean it. I'm a programmer, and I (normally?) believe in BandAMP. I certainly have other things to keep busy with. In fact, and merely by coincidence, I do happen to be tying some loose ends on a site called musicden.org, so I guess it's time to turn some attention to that pet project.
Hope I haven't pissed anybody off enough that you won't feel comfortable contacting me in the future, even if it has nothing to do with the AMP.

Jeeeez...
We need word from mud ASAP, to work out a deal regarding ownership (ultimate decision making / server control) and financing of the site. If none of the admins will contact him, I will do that myself. I still have his email from my own admin days. This financing thing is the first issue to be resolved.
Server migration and updates of the forum software (or rewrites, what have you) will be the next (not unimportant) step. That is where TLS' expertise may come in. I've no doubt of the peoples good intentions on any part in this discussion so far. I'm actually happy to see TLS explaining what he can contribute, and I am less happy with some of the follow ups that his initial post spawned. However, we must stick to the main point of the thread right now, and resolve the most pressing matters first.
Mud, thine input please!

If I remember right, Mud had wanted to do something to bring the site closer to open-source, even. I imagine this is not as big a deal for him as we're making it out to be.
Despite my throttled interaction with the community, I'll certainly be interested in how he responds.

In a possible redo of site coding I'd appreciate a standard PHP so everyone can follow. This must be a clear point for the future. Like PX said this is a next step.

Only PHP? That is rather close minded... There is no guaranteed security with PHP, and its not a modern object-oriented language, and in order to contribute a person needs to know PHP, HTML, and PostgreSQL before they can be allowed to touch stuff. I would urge you to do some reading on WSGI and Django. The really simple version of it is that Django separates design logic from HTML, database backend, etc. It makes it an ideal "group collaboration" platform, because things are designed to be modular.
I will save any further discussion for another time, but I really have little intrest in cooking up another PHP collaboration disaster. I realize it may be uncomfortable that I propose something else as a solution, since chances are that you dont't know the language, but it's super easy, and someone earlier in this thread mentioned that they know Python. I just don't want us to jump to conclusions about what "must" happen, based only on a single person's preference. It is a community effort, after all.

KEEPING BANDAMP ALIVE |
I would help to support the effort to keep Bandamp going. It sure would be ashamed to lose such a great site. This is where it all started for me in 2006, as far as posting music online and collaborating with so many different and good Artist. Bandamp will always be a special place for me even though I have ventured on to many other music sites and posted music. There aren't any other sites like Bandamp and it's community. There was a time when some of us did make donations to the site. I don't know whatever happened. I'm not sure how to go about making a donation now. Is there a way to do so?
Hi everyone! Long time no see!
I apologize for not being more communicative. I've been putting all my energy into my startup the past four years- unfortunately, that did not seem to pay off
It's exciting to come back and see that there are a few people online right now, that I remember from way back in the day. You guys have done a great job of keeping things running!
So, I promised to let you know when this happened;
I'm down to the last of my finances, and am in debt to the government for a pretty penny. We need to figure out a way to pay for the server. The server is currently $100 per month, it's possible we could move the website to a cheaper server, however, I don't have the resources to fund that move (system administrators are expense, and it's not my expertise).
My question would be, does anyone here have the skills to move the website? That includes installing PosgreSQL, PHP, moving databases, and httpd.conf, ect... If there is, we can look for a more affordable server, this would be a great step forwards!
Next step would be some way to come up with the hosting fees each month. I notice there is a donation link, so maybe that is bringing in some revenue? Also, there is the possibilities of advertisements. Or, if there are members out there who would be able to pitch in a monthly $5, or something, we could put it all in a Google Wallet or Paypal account, and then pay it to the hosting company that way.
Does anyone know how much traffic we get now? Someone changed the Analytics a couple years back, and so not sure which one of you has the access
Cheers!

How much time do we have?
Analytics are shut down for years. I ever wanted to reactivate this options but didnt dare to make some changes on the server due to unstable behaviour. Remember my last change on Apache Server few months ago where battlecat had to find someone to push the reset button.
Google analytics are under my "account". But Im afraid I lost access data. Have to find it.
Server is low on traffic as there are only two hands full of members online and guests. Most of guests are bots.
You Mud should think about to give away the domain name. Moving the server is not that difficult. And Postgresql and PHP are pretty easy to install. I can do some backups of files (mp3 and pics) and database.
PHP code is on my local drive.
But do we have the time?

How much money do we need to raise now to keep the website running? I assume the host would have an annual agreement? If it's monthly, lets simply send the money to muds account on a monthly/quarterly basis, paypal would be nice and easy for me. I don't think the bandAMP donation function is working, but we could set-up another one. TK I respect your judgement, what do you think?

The sums are the same, it will cost 10 members 100euros each per year ..... as things stand now, I have no problem with that.
Not into sending money to someones privet account or an account with one administrator, as we've seen with the donations button ... JimK is not active enough to actually partake in decisions and transaction. Apparently there's about 15 dollars on there
I have a shit load of server space .... just sitting there. When I bought my company name I also bought server space... a few years ago they made it a lot bigger ... how nice of them !
Just checked and I have 8gb free with bandwidth up to 20gb ..... would this be enough ? I dont know all the stats.
It runs php5 already but you'd need more database.
It could be setup that TK remains the admin and that you remain the owner .....
Could the site be hosted from one server and the mp3 library from another?
Just proposing some possibilities.
If it's a matter of time , we all have skype and we all have the time to sort this out ... fairly pronto.
Very much like the CAPTCH that needs to be set up soon, this last wave of false registrars is becoming constant.
This site is so amazing in that its members are so loyal and thats why I love it here. This isn't some big business company that is running the site. The members are running the site. Mud made this beautiful thing happen all those years ago! That's why this community is so different from anything else out there, its truly like a mom and pop business almost. And its not even a business! Its all free! Bandamp is amazing. I love it so much. If I had a job I would contribute at LEAST $5 every month. I wish I had a job. The economy is so so horrible right now. I do know that I don't ever want to see this site go down though, so I'm going to be watching closely for what people are saying and what's going to happen and if I do see something that I could help with I will instantly jump at the opportunity. In fact I'll notify my cousin connor. I know he has lots of server space and stuff like that so I'm sure you'll hear something.

You can count me in for ten dollars a month...and a little extra in the case we needed to make up for any month we are short changed...I don't like ads but I'm open to whatever keeps the site running! Just let me know when to start sending...Kings,Battlecat and Triton Keyborder are the main guys helping run the place but I know there is and has being other help involved so they might have better info on the matter.Glad to see you around and I'm sorry things didn't work out!
Thanks Marino! I'll continue to put in $10 a month to

I'm also against having ads, and it would be great if the website could be all member contributed. But, then again, in Wikipedia's case, I almost wish they'd have that one advertisement, instead of their "donate to us" ad-which kind of makes me feel guilty when I don't donate.

We have as much time as it takesI told you I would let you know in advance. I'm not going to let the website go down, I'm saying, I'm really struggling here, and need help on this one. No worries on losing the Analytics, we can hook up another one. I'm not familiar with Unix, so glad you think it wont be a problemwhat do you think the server instability is about?
When you talk about giving away the domain, are you referring to a charitable organization who would have the funding/desire to build upon a educational music community? If we can find the right candidate, that would grow this website in the right direction, I would be more than happy to do this.

It depends on where we find to host the server... I know that $100/month isn't bad for a dedicated server. But, it would be very cool to find a Cloud Hosting solution, that would support PostgreSQL/PHP, and have relatively cheap bandwidth costs. TK, do you have any idea what a good server would cost, or the feasibility of running a Cloud hosted solution? I've had great experience with netdepot.com.
I was attempting to start up a Graphic Software company with a friend. It turned out we weren't such good friends, as when my money ran up (the funding), he decided he needed my shares in order to keep working. But, learned a lot through the process about programming in Javascript, and HTML5.
I really like your idea of hosting the MP3's on one server, and the website on another. There could even be multiple clone's of the audio data, in case one persons server goes down. But, that's probably getting ahead of ourselves
I think the server you described might actually work...
I'll poke around the BandAMP server admin area, and see whether there is a way to see how much bandwidth we're running.
My Skype is mudcube

A friend of mine runs a web hosting, multiple server site business. I'll talk to him and get some info on costs ect. I'm back in school now learning all about severs, networks, security, and website development with html5,sql, java, asp.net, and c# (still learning these, just at the beginning stages).. I have worked in Linux, but I'm not a Linux programmer. I did some work with Unix, maintaining oracle database, very basic stuff. If it got to hard it was escalated to others.

Hey!
I know I haven't been around so much lately. I have been working multiple jobs, sometimes 80+ hours a week and doing a lot of screenplay work as well. It seems to be a sign of the times that more intimate forums such as these are going the way of the Dodo. A poetry site I have been a member of has recently announced its closure. It is dis-heartening to see this type of thing happen. It seems that nowadays it is 'go big or go home'. With so many social media sites, society is doused with pokes, adds and friends we have never spoken to.
While I am a firm proponent of keeping things intimate here on BandAmp, I truly believe we need to evolve with the times.
Social media is the new king. We need to be part of this. I think there could be some additions to this site that would bring many more visitors and some income stream. At least enough to keep the gears greased.
1- Create a Twitter feed on the right margin of the main page and on the non-review sections of the forums. Have links to individual members' Twitter accounts. I believe there is a way for admin to select particular tweets to appear on the feed. If not, oh well. It would be neat either way.
2- Integrate ITunes into the forums. When you review a song or visit a member page and listen, you should have the option to immediately purchase the song via ITunes. Members would have the option to sell or not sell MP3s. Albums could be offered as well. Any tunes sold from this site would be deposited in a BandAmp account. Profits could either be wholly contributed to the site or a split could occur. At the end of each 3 month period, someone in charge of the funds would transfer via paypal half of the proceeds to the musician and the rest would be put towards operating costs.
--This will help in another way. Many members do not want to put their best work on a free site due to them not making any profit from their work. And they are just in that view. They work hard and should be paid as such. In return for the opportunity to be paid for their work, we will get more of their best posted for review. On top of that, members would be more inclined to work together to create even better music collaborations.
3. Find a sponsor. This could be a series of small recording studios, guitar companies, etc. Find one or two SPONSORS, NOT ADVERTISERS. They would have a single banner ad. It would not be invasive, but they would be guaranteed to be the only one or two advertisers for our site for a period of time. Getting 100 dollars for this would not be out of the question.
4. Have a music video contest. Find a sponsor to supply the prizes. Have special guests from YouTube(popular people with many viewers) act as a panel of judges. This will drive visitors from those YouTube channels and propel some of our talented people into a new spotlight and medium. We do still have our own YouTube channel to use as well.
5. Yes. Open donations. Don't make it a monthly fee but offer a monthly donation option so a set amount comes out each month. An option could be to put a symbol next to the names of people who have helped out. A small form of recognition when you see their names posted.
6. Mods become active outside of BandAmp. We need a few enthusiastic people to get on YouTube and start watching indie musicians and COMMENTING and INVITING them to our site to check it out. This will go MILES towards gathering more members. People post on YouTube to get recognition for what they are doing. Funny, isn't that what happens here too? I bet, if we recognize others on YouTube and offer valuable comments, they would feel more encouraged and welcome in coming to visit us here. In every comment and message to these users this should be posted: www.bandamp.com
7. Create a marketing team. Every good site will focus on marketing. This is not only for sites who are revenue based. We can benefit from a great marketing campaign too. We need people who have ideas and are willing to follow through with them until completion/success. The ideal amount of people on the team would be 4. More and it gets messy; less and there is too much work for each person. This team should be allowed a good amount of leeway to get the job done. If everything has to be voted on by the entire community, nothing will get done.
There are many things that can be done. The best things we can do are:
Become Enthusiastic
Get the BandAmp name seen everywhere
...and the rest will follow.
Yes, I am willing to donate to keep this site going because I know its value and what it can be.
However, I think simple donations will only allow us to doggy paddle into the future, never really making any forward progress. And while every dog has his day, I don't think we should count on it just happening. We need to take a pro-active approach and get things going. We have a great community and if they get behind a good effort, good things will happen.
I would be more than willing to help out in any way I can. Message me or send an email to busterhamilton@aol.com if you would like to chat.

OK ... doing all this would take time .... everyone here , keeping the place going, comes here of their own free will, no charges or costs involved ... the only ties any of us have are personal .... which is how it should be in one way as you cant tie down a creative artist ... they need a sense of freedom.
If the site were promoted ... yes it needs some, but a BIG promo would bring in LOADS more people (one aims and hopes for ... ) which would eventually mean more time having to be spent on the site 'keeping it going' .... as I said we are all 'volunteers' and we all have other 'darker' sides ... called 'everyday life'.
Notice that the one person who really does pay for the site is very rarely here ... he's out there trying to make all kind of things work ... bandAMP being a side issue, as important as it may be to all of us.
I think setting up a 'transparent' bank account where we could 'donate' would be a very good step .... it might be a step that has to be taken before we can take others.
I have looked into it but not seriously yet ... again a question of time and priority ....
Promoting the site in the way you say is something any member can do .... all it takes is small amount of effort and enthusiasm ....

Take it from me, be careful, I had set up that Paypal account, and set it up as nonprofit, but we had never really got set up as a nonprofit organization. Therefore, Pay pal shut down the account, the money got ate up in fees, and I had a crapload of explaining to do to lawyers. I can't even log into that Pay pal account anymore. It is locked, and declared a scammer account.
I would not set it up as nonprofit. You will pay fees per donation, but you wont have to deal with legality issues. I am still recovering financially from being out of work for so long, but will contribute what I can, when I can. I also use Godaddy for hosting, though, my hosting is free
my Domain names. And they only cost me about $12 per year.. But their support is great, back before I lost my job, I bought a hosting account from them, it was very inexpensive, and I think it could be an option.
Anyway, I will try to show up more often.. I do miss this place...

So who are you these days if your not da ADT man ?
Though you'll always be THE Jim da ADT man around here !
I've mentioned your donations account every time we've come to this bandAmp point .... I did not know that it had gone that way .... but you've learnt from the experience.
Thinking ahead just a little ... we will come here again to this point of needing to pay for the server so having an account in place makes sense ... Do you have any suggestions as to what bandAmp.com the non-profit internet site can do to have such an account ?
jimkdaman |
Since I am no longer ADT man,I now work for a company named Koorsen Security Technology. It's really a much better fit. I now focus on integrated security solutions, combining access control, CCTV, and burg/fire along with network to give a complete security interface. Anyway, Paypal would still
work, but unless you actually get registsered in he US as a not for profit, you have to just set up as a personal or small business account. Otherwise, there are other banks that could do it, but none as easy to setup and use as Paypal, and most server hosting places accept paypal for payments, so it is just a smarter decision.

I've got linux/unix experience here if you guys need help moving dedicated servers. Our biggest problem is obviously storage space.
It's too bad that we couldn't all just use bandcamp or soundcloud or something and instead just run the forums. That would be super easy and we could do it all on a 30 dollar/month VPS or something.

Guys and galls .... I wouldn't worry too much about the end of anything .... I dont want to speak to soon and all that but I do want to say something ....
I received an email from our patron Saint Mud a few weeks ago, he was on about moving the site to a new server ... for what ever reasons, he was trying to get hold of TK, hope he did.
Mud is a very special guy, an entrepreneur into ALL kinds of stuff ... bandamp is his babe and he does realise how important it is to a lot of people.
He has a lot of his own projects to keep him occupied and bandamp is tucked away safely within those projects.
An account has been discussed and noted, when it is necessary it will be implemented ... until then ...
IF YOU WANT TO SUPPORT BANDAMP.COM , KEEP MAKING MUSIC, KEEP VISITING, KEEP POSTING AND MOST OF ALL KEEP BEING THE ESSENTIAL PART OF BANDAMP THAT YOU ARE.
YES THAT MEANS YOU
